Not sure if its the pressure of a "PR" course or not. Ya, the potty situation did not look sufficient for that many folks. Richard Hefner rated it a 3 which is about right. By the way, I don't have anything "official" but I go with Chip time as practically speaking, that is exactly when you started and finished. Why punish yourself for not crossing the start line the same tim as the leaders? Congrats on PR to all!Aaron Linzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06116943195550562273noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3349528968660309588.post-10336833750153190472009-08-29T19:54:44.559-04:002009-08-29T19:54:44.559-04:00Yay for your PR....but like you, I definitely expe...Yay for your PR....but like you, I definitely expected to do better... I loved your breakdown of the course. Def. went out too fast, and thought I had a shot at a sub 7:00 pace. Chip time of 21:48 was a PR for me, but at 7:01 per mile, I was just shy of my goal. Love your column Theoden, keep it up, and good luck with your training for the NYC Marathon!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3349528968660309588.post-26764597480759699972009-08-29T18:40:42.056-04:002009-08-29T18:40:42.056-04:00Today was my first 5K in almost 10 years - had a g...Today was my first 5K in almost 10 years - had a great time, the crowds were great and I came in under 10 mins per mile so I'm happy and technically this counts as my new PR! Saw you near the finish line - I'm the guy that said how much I love your column. Looking forward to the next couple 5K's before Christmas!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3349528968660309588.post-29162827261669709642009-08-29T17:44:51.653-04:002009-08-29T17:44:51.653-04:00Did not PR. Just goes to show what an excellent job Tim Rhodes and the Run For Your Life group does when they put on a race! Wonder how entries at other races are doing this year? Several long time races were not held this year. Perhaps lack of interest or economy problems? Has anyone seen any info if travel to out of town races has declined due to economy?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3349528968660309588.post-30150857341057319432009-08-29T17:43:07.799-04:002009-08-29T17:43:07.799-04:00I know that gun time is "official" but I...I know that gun time is "official" but I go by chip time. I'm not that fast so why should I clog up the front of the race to improve my gun time? The chip time reflects the time to run the distance.

By either measure I set a PR, but then again I've only run 4 5Ks so it isn't that hard to do.

BTW, I love this blog.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3349528968660309588.post-38339513509674561492009-08-29T17:38:34.650-04:002009-08-29T17:38:34.650-04:00USA Track & Field states thet gun time is the ...USA Track & Field states thet gun time is the official race time. Which one's the PR?? In many races there's only gun time (e.g. no starting mat or sometimes no chip) so do you only count gun time or what? No PR for me - we ran 2.5 miles before it started and still had 12.5 to go when it was over! The last stretch up East Blvd. was deceptively long and I pushed too hard too early. I thought it was a nice course, though.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
