Cool new novelty race alert: The 1K Beer Run at The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery (Charlotte's only microbrewery, at 215 Southside Drive). Start time is NOON on Saturday, June 12, and the race is -- as the name says -- just a single kilometer.
For $25, you get a race number, a T-shirt, two pints of Olde Mecklenburg beer, and BBQ (Mac's Speed Shop is going to cater). A portion of all proceeds go to Pints for Prostates to help fight prostate cancer. You need to commit soon, though -- the deadline to enter is May 21.

I like the fact that OMB is doing a community/charity piece, but please find someone that can brew consistent beers. I would love to have great beer, but you have to be consistent before being great.
They're not the only microbrewery, either. Hop's has been around for a long time in Matthews, and there's also Four Friends that launched last year.
Still looks like a fun time!
Finally! A race I can take my non-runner husband to. Even HE can do a 1k...especially if there is beer and BBQ thrown in. Can't wait!
I've had a lot of OMB beer and I'd say they were very consistent... AND good! What did you find that was inconsistent about them?
Four Friends isn't in Charlotte. They claim to be, but the brewery is just across the border in SC. A technicality to be sure, but Théoden did say "Charlotte's only..."
Hops (in Matthews) and Rock Bottom (in Uptown Charlotte) brew on premises, but they are Brew pubs not necessarily microbreweries. The distinction being that Brew pubs brew their own, while Microbreweries brew to distribute. Neither Hops nor Rock Bottom distributes (not these particular locations anyway).
Randomusings is excatly right. Chain restaurants don't count as local microbreweries. And I have been drinking OMB Copper for a year now. Never had a bad one. Either way, the event sounds like a lot of fun, I think I have a shot at finishing (both the run and the beer).
You can take Hop's home, so they count in my book. Best deal in kegs!
La Paz on south blvd has Cooper and I love it!
