And Charlotte's Runner of the Year is ...

... actually, I don't know yet. I can't decide on my own. I need your help.

Last year, Rebecca Thomason took the prize -- which is just "fame," unfortunately; I have no fortune to share -- while D.C. Luchessi and Jonathan Savage were honorable mentions (read about them here). This year? The jury's out.

So ... please point me in the right direction by submitting a nomination for 2010 Runner of the Year. It doesn't have to be someone who's fast. It doesn't have to be someone who runs a lot of races. The person simply needs to have a passion for running that is infectious, an unyielding dedication to the sport that makes others want to be better runners -- and better human beings. (The only requirement is that he/she reside in the greater Charlotte metropolitan area.)

I know you've got someone in mind. So shoot me an e-mail at tjanes@charlotteobserver.com.

I nominate Savage... his resume continues to impress... his discovering and then sharing of running related info on his wiki is becoming a great resource for all.

and ... HE WON KEYS 100mi this past year!

I vote for John Chambers. Several years ago, he coached the RFYL running class and showed me a sincere passion for running. No way would I love running as much as I do now without him leading the way. I tell him that all the time but I don't think he believes me. :)

I vote for Jamie Dodge. She started a much needed run club in the Fort Mill area and has inspired many to run this past year. She is a font of knowledge about all aspects of running. She makes you want to go run.

I can think of 3 that have inspired me this year. Savage, Theoden, and the Sultan. All three share the knowledge, and continue to inspire our running community every day.

I'm going with Bill Shires. Great topics in his 'Thoughts from the Cool Down Runner'. Awesome recaps from each and every race he runs. Puts the 'master' in Masters. An inspiring representative for the Charlotte running community.

I nominate Bevin Jett, the organizer of the Charlotte Runner's Meetup Group. It's the largest, most active club in Charlotte and it is all due to her hard work and love for running. She encourages runners of all abilities and has created a welcoming atmosphere for them with her club.

I nominate Bevin Jett, the organizer of the Charlotte Runner's Meetup Group. I took up running for the first time in my life this past Feb. I joined the group that Bevin had set up and have met many great people along the way who, were eager and willing to answer all my questions.

I nominate John Lineberger. This gentleman has been running the Jeff Gallaway program in Charlotte for years. He has gotten more people involved in running that anyone I know. He is passionate about running. Always provides routes, water stops, advice and encouragement to all the new runners taking up this sport. If you want passion and dedication, then this is your Runner of the Year.

I also nominate Bevin Jett for all of the reasons mentioned above. The Charlotte Runners Meetup group is awesome and it is all possible because of Bevin.
